Roulette History

Unlike many other games of chance, there is not much hassle or confusion surrounding the history of roulette. It is clear, as the casino game was created and how it spread and grew, the popular game it is today.

The History of Roulette started in 1655 in France. Ironically, the game of roulette does not start out as a game of chance or even a game at all. The French mathematician Blaise Pascal tried to create a perpetual motion wheel, which would rotate forever. His attempt was not successful. However, it did lead to the invention of the roulette wheel, and turn into one of the world’s most popular gambling games. Over the years, the design of Pascal roulette wheel has changed very little.

If the roulette wheel was invented, and with it the game of roulette, slots 36 numbered from 1 to 36 contained numbered. It was not until 1842 that the number has been added to the wheel to provide a higher house edge 0. There were two brothers Francois and Louis Blanc, of the 0 added, making the game more attractive to casinos. Legend has it that the Blanc brothers sold their soul to the devil to learn the secrets of roulette. The root of this legend comes from the fact that when all the numbers on a roulette wheel are added together they total 666, which is known as the devil’s number or the number of the beast.

It may have been due to the legend of evil, or other reasons that the game of roulette was banned in France in this period. However, let Francois and Louis Blanc not want to stop them. They moved to Monte Carlo where she opened one of the first casinos. Roulette has spread to one of the most popular games there and quickly all over Europe.

In the 1800s, the game spread to the United States as well. The game took root with French settlers in New Orleans and spread the Mississippi riverboats, and then to the rest of the country. Americans added an extra number on the wheel double 00, for a total of 38 slots and an even higher house advantage. However, despite the higher house advantage roulette has to be games in the United States, along with Europe and the rest of the world to one of the most popular casino.
